Project "Integrate and Empower Ukrainian Heritage Communities in Georgia through employment opportunities and awareness raising campaign"

14th february, 2023

ICOM Georgia with this current project, on one hand, seeks to address the issue of professional integration and economic support of Ukrainian refugee women living in Georgia and representing the museum sector. On the other hand, it addresses the lack of information among the Georgian community as well as professional groups regarding the damage to cultural heritage sites and museums across Ukraine and the work of the Ukrainian and European colleagues to document the damages, salvage and safeguard heritage sites and objects from further damage.

In August 2022, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) announced an extraordinary grant competition to support Ukrainian museums and museum professionals. on November 25 as a result of the review of applications by ICOM SAREC, 6 projects were selected for funding, including the ICOM Georgia project "Integrate and Empower Ukrainian Heritage Communities in Georgia through employment opportunities and awareness raising campaign", which will be implemented in collaboration with ICOM Ukraine, Blue shield Georgia, National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity – HERI, State Silk Museum and the Georgian Heritage Crafts Association. The project aims, on the one hand, professional integration and economic support to Ukrainian colleagues representing the museum and heritage sector, currently living in Georgia; On the other hand - spreading information about the damage of Ukrainian cultural heritage monuments and museums and raising awareness about the cultural heritage protection during armed conflict through various activities (exhibition, forum, training, panel-discussion, publication). The project will be completed in December 2023.
